Precision Dowel Pin
A precision dowel pin is needed for an interference fit. There are a number of considerations when designing a precision dowel. The type of material for the dowel will affect the dowel's dimensions. You cannot merely measure the size of the hole to determine the length and diameter of the dowel, as there are a number of factors involved. For instance, the ductility of a dowel will determine its diameter. Different grades of steel will have different ductility so this will affect the final design. In addition, the ductility of the material in the hole itself will affect the size and diameter of the dowel. We will work out specifications with you to ensure there will be no problem with dowel application. In addition, tolerance will also affect both dowel and hole fabrication. We have dowels with a diameter tolerance of +.0000 to -.0002. The standard length tolerance for dowels is +/-.010, but we can supply +/-.005. You should by no means feel limited by the dowels we have in stock. Often, customization is needed, and we make our customers' requirements a priority.
